HELSINGBORG, Sweden (AP) ? Annika Sorenstam won her eighth tournament of the season Sunday, shooting a 2-under-par 70 for a four-shot victory at the Compaq Open.
Sorenstam, playing in Sweden for the first time in two years, offset two bogeys with four birdies, finishing at 17-under 271 to become the first three-time winner of the event. She also won the Compaq in 1997 and '98.
Sorenstam, a six-time winner on the LPGA Tour this season who missed the cut for the first time in 75 events last week at the Women's British Open, led by six strokes after three rounds and was never seriously challenged Sunday.
"I played defensive golf," Sorenstam said. "I didn't want to make mistakes. I would have played more aggressive had someone made a big move."
Sweden's Sophie Gustafson shot a 66, and finished second at 13-under 275. Spain's Ana-Belen closed with a 68 and was third at 278. England's Laura Davies, second after three rounds, shot a 76 and finished seventh at 5-under 283.
A record 21,000 spectators crowded the Vasatorp Golf Club for the final round.
