Butch Harmon Golf Tour to debut in June
by Associated Press
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Golf instructor Butch Harmon said he hopes a southern Nevada developmental mini-tour will attract top pro players who aren't already on major tour circuits.
The Butch Harmon Golf Tour will begin in June 2005 and run for 16 weeks at courses in and around Las Vegas, Harmon announced Tuesday.
Plans call for $3.2 million in tour prize money, including purses of $175,000 for 15 weekly events and $600,000 for a tour championship. Players will pay a $25,000 tour entry fee, with the top 40 money winners qualifying for the championship.
Harmon was Tiger Woods' instructor until their split in 2002.
He said tour proceeds will be donated to the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association.
