Tom Watson Takes AccuFLEX ICON to the Winners Circle
by Associated Press
AccuFLEX Golf's "ICON v.2" Joins Tom Watson at His Record Setting Ninth "Major" Championship Start in One Season
Gastonia, NC August 28, 2003 -- AccuFLEX Golf congratulates Tom Watson on his
single season, record-setting ninth major championship appearance in 2003. No
other golfer has ever accomplished this feat, made possible by a fifth
"major" on the Senior circuit and by the 53 year-old Watson's ability to qualify for
The Masters, The U.S. Open, The British Open and the PGA Championship.
AccuFLEX Golf has been donating a portion of the proceeds of all sales of the
ICON v.2 and a new shaft, the ICON v.3, to The Bruce Edwards Trust since
early May and is proud that it was the first golf business to contribute to the
Trust. The Bruce Edwards Trust was formed to benefit Tom's longtime caddy Bruce
Edwards, who has been diagnosed with ALS. The world has since become more
aware of Mr. Edwards situation and AccuFLEX is pleased that contributions continue
to make their way to the Trust and to www.driving4life.org, the fundraising
campaign introduced by Tom Watson, Bruce Edwards, golfer and ALS sufferer Jeff
Julian and the ALS Therapy Development Foundation. Watson's stellar play and
exemplary leadership in the effort to find a cure for ALS has inspired everyone
and AccuFLEX Golf commends Tom and Bruce for their courage and poise
throughout this trying time.
"We at AccuFLEX are proud that our ICON v.2 shaft has been there with Tom
throughout his successful run this summer," AccuFLEX president Jody Baucom
stated. "That Tom has accomplished this feat of nine major championships in one year
with Bruce's illness on his mind is amazing. That he has performed so well on
the golf course is a testament to his golfing greatness and only adds to his
legendary status. That he is leading the fight to find a cure for ALS while
doing all of this seems like some divine intervention has occurred.
Congratulations to Tom Watson. We are honored by our association with you."
