Lian-Wei may be first Chinese player to play PGA event
by Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP)?

Zhang Lian-Wei could become the first player from mainland China to play a PGA Tour event.

Zhang, a self-taught golfer who beat Ernie Els with a birdie on the final hole to win the Singapore Masters, has been offered a sponsor's exemption to play the Memorial in May.

He has won more than $750,000 in eight years on the Asian PGA and Japan Tours.

Besides his win in Singapore, Zhang was 26th at the Hong Kong Open, 86th at the Malaysian Open and 120th at the Johnnie Walker Classic.
